Works on paper are an exploratory genre – smaller scale allows me to experiment with new materials. Series “Snakes and Ladders” is inspired by ancient game Leela – a transformational board game of self-knowledge with roots in ancient Indian tradition. It's designed to be a game of life, offering insight into consciousness and a path to spiritual enlightenment. The game involves rolling a die, moving around a board, and interpreting the meanings of the squares to gain self-awareness and understanding of one's journey. I move the brush filled with watercolor and natural pigments on paper to create snake-like shapes while listening to singing bowls. Circular shapes create a mandala framework for the exercise and each composition reflects my mental state at the moment of painting.
